Author Guidelines

Submission Requirements

Revised:  April 28, 2017

Theophilus is looking for articles and book/film reviews from registered students and recent graduates (within 1 year) of Catholic Theological Union for our 2018 volume.

For detailed submission guidelines, please review the list below (submissions that do not conform to these guidelines will be returned to the author for revision. Proper re-submission will be required to be considered for the journal).

  • Topics must relate to the fields of theology and/or pastoral studies and must engage Roman Catholic values and principles.
  • Manuscripts must be submitted via the Theophilus website. For help, please contact the editors via email at theophilus@ctu.edu.
  • Book and Film reviews must pertain to films released within the past (1) year and books released within the last three (3) years of manuscript submission date.
  • Articles and reviews must be accompanied by an abstract (100 word limit), a works cited page,  and a short (150 word limit) autobiographical statement. Do not include these additional items in the article file. Abstract, works cited page, and autobiographical statement are to be uploaded separately from the body of the article. There are unique spaces for the abstract and works cited page in the upload process. Please upload the autobiographical statement in the "supplemental materials" section.
  • Article submissions must be between 2,000 and 8,000 words in length.
  • Citations should be footnoted and conform to the The Chicago Manual of Style as detailed in the CTU student handbook.
  • The submission file must be in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • The text must be single-spaced; use 12-point Times New Roman font; employ italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables must be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. All names and personal references must be removed from the body of the text in order to protect the integrity of the double blind peer review process.
  • Papers may be submitted by one or multiple authors.
  • Papers published in Theophilus may not be published elsewhere.

All authors will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of your submission. Please contact the editors at theophilus@ctu.edu if you do not receive a confirmation email within one day of your submission.

The deadline for submissions is in the Fall of 2017!

For more information, please contact the editors at:  theophilus@ctu.edu.
